第二では放火と刑罰に関する法例を検討する。失火に関する法例は極めて多いのに対して放火殺人として科刑せられた事例は極めて少ない。放火事件はしばしばあったものの、犯人が逮捕されない場合があったことが藩日記に記されている。

要旨・内容 (英語)

The second examines statutes relating to arson and punishment. While there are many legal precedents related to accidental fires, there are very few cases of arson murder. Although there were frequent arson incidents, it is recorded in the domain diary that the culprits were sometimes not arrested.
